Day 3 - Guilin to Lijiang

We reluctantly departed Guilin, for the next chapter in our adventure. Before hopping the plane to Lijiang, we visited the Reed Flute Caves. This is certainly the most spectacular cave I have ever encountered - the enormous pillars and rock formations are incredible. This is an example where they got the lighting right - it was tastefully illuminated and accentuated the elegant natural curtains, pillars, and stalactites.

After a few hour flight, we arrived in Lijiang. Immediately upon arriving in the old city, we were thrilled, because we realized that we had ventured into a very special place. The entire old city is car free, and when we arrived in the evening, there was music, dancing in the street, food, laughter, and colorful lights everywhere. We grabbed some dinner, and were looking forward to exploring Lijiang in the morning!
